On Saturday, May 24th, Squeezebox Stompers performing a live concert of "Rockin Ralph's Roadhouse" provided more fun than should be legal on the shores of Eastie. On Saturday, May 10th, we were delighted to have Higganum Hill Books launch the release of Jared Smith's newest book of poetry, "The Graves Grow Bigger Between Generations". Jared gave a great reading to a stone silent audience that hung on his every word. See Jared Smith for photos and a review of his book. On Friday, May 2nd, Salvatore Baglio and Bird Mancini were in the house. It was an amazing and truly unique night of rockin great music. Go to Sal Baglio/Bird Mancini to see pics. On Friday, April 26th, the Tony Gallo Group was in the house and rocked the place. We even pushed back the chairs and got some dancing going. Tony is a great singer and performer, who can wail on the harmonica. John Hyde is an exceptional keyboard player, special guest percussionist, Fabio Pirozzolo set the beat, and Noah Maltsberg played a mean guitar. Go to Tony Gallo Group to see pics. On Saturday, April 19th, 80 Border Street Cultural Exchange Center held our National Poetry Month Spoken Word Extravaganza from noon to 6:00 pm. Featured poets included Claudia Buckholts, Boston's First Poet Laureate, Sam Cornish, Nicole Terez Dutton, Elkin Echeverri, Regie O'Hare Gibson and David Surette, with musical performances by Steve Koretz and Guillermo Ortiz. On Saturday, April 12th, we had the great pleasure of presenting an amazing performance by the Willow Flute Ensemble, an 11-piece ensemble of exceptional musicians; a real treat. Visit Willow Flute to see photos of this event. On Thursday, March 20th, 80 Border Street Cultural Exchange Center's Poet's Moon Cafe Open Mike Night featured Regie O'Hare Gibson. Visit Regie Gibson and Open Mike to see photos of the event. Regie's amazing performance wowed both poets and non poets alike. We also had a number of really great poets and musicians on open mike, including David Kristin, who will be our featured poet on April 17th. On Friday, March 8, 2007, the Boston Typewriter Orchestra http://www.bostontypewriterorchestra.com and East Boston Make-Out Club Band http://www.myspace.com/eastiemakeoutclub delighted a full to overflowing house at 80 Border Street Cultural Exchange Center during their highly successful concert to benefit the Center. On Saturday, February 23 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, everyone had a great time at our Concert and CD Release Party featuring hot new East Boston acoustical guitarist and composer, Guillermo Ortiz myspace.com/guillermoortizmusic.
