On Friday, August 1 at 7:00 pm, join us for Movies That Move the Mind, featuring "The Future of Food". American agribusiness, hellbent on controlling the Earth's food supply, has unleashed genetically engineered plants that are taking over family farms and threatening the health of the nation. It may sound like Hollywood science fiction, but it's the truth about what's happening on farms today, according to filmmaker Deborah Koons Garcia. And consumers, she says, need to understand what is at stake and demand changes - before it is too late. Free
On Saturday, August 2nd at 7:00 pm, Travelin' Light will be performing at the Center. The musicians of Travelin' Light bring a world of experience: Steve Provizer in jazz, Ed Meradith in rock, blues and folk and Gabriele Snyder in classical and theatre. All three are composers. They are 3 singers-2 male and one female. Among them they also play trumpet, trombone, bass and piano. Their 4th member is a jazz guitarist. You will recognize some of the tunes performed by Travelin' Light, but you have never heard them done our way. For instance, you may know Gershwin's "But Not For Me," but you've never heard it done with a lyricized version of a Chet Baker intro and solo. You may have heard Frank Zappa's song "Peaches En Regalia," but you've never heard it sung-in 3-part harmony-with orignial lyrics. You may know "I Can't Get Started," but you've never heard Dizzy Gillespie's jazz solo sung with original lyrics. Travelin' Light is challenging but fun; moving and flip; daring and sometimes comforting; never cliched. $5 Donation

This is one of those rare albums that I'll be pulling off the shelf for the rest of my life." -Les Lewellyn, preyinglizardmusic.com JON MACEY & STEVE GILLIGAN are songwriters and musicians who have a deep love and admiration for American folk and country music.
